Where you'll find it
Kitchens, bathrooms and utility rooms of homes and flats refitted before the mid-1980s, frequently hiding under one or two newer floor layers.
The risk
Lifting it dry is the problem: the backing shreds and the residue gets sanded or scraped by flooring fitters. Test before any floor replacement in a pre-1985 kitchen or bathroom.
Removal and cost
Removed wetted and rolled with the backing scraped under controlled conditions, typically £20 to £50 per m² including disposal, leaving a clean screed for the new floor.
